When I first met my Team Leader in Afghanistan, I could immediately see that he was a leader of presence. His personal presentation was excellent, he projected calm confidence, and although slightly older than his team, he was in exceptional physical condition. He made it a point to BE the example.
What I learned from him, was that leaders with presence influence those around them by providing example through everyday actions. That how others perceive a leader is not simply based upon their role and competency alone, but also their demeanor, actions, and personal presentation.
Leaders with presence inspire trust and confidence in their people through example. They execute their duties in-line with the company values and are aware of the image they project.
